FILMS THAT CHANGED MY LIFE: Juno

The first time I watched Juno, I was probably about 12 and I started watching it with my parents after they bought the DVD. But I didn’t see very much of the film then because it got to that scene where the two main characters are naked on a chair. Then, unsurprisingly, my mum switched it off and sent me to bed. But my Juno experience wasn’t over. I was determined to watch the rest of that film. So a week later when my parents left the house, I watched the DVD alone and finished it before they came back. If you haven’t seen Juno, the protagonist is a teenager (called Juno) with a dry sense of humour who apparently I could relate to even from the naïve age of 11. In case you’re wondering, the chair scene isn’t that bad. In fact I’m pretty sure Juno’s language is more explicit, but it’s just one of the many reasons I love her. There’s also a scene where Ellen Page (who plays Juno) and Jason Bateman bond over punk rock and horror movies, thus perfectly depicting that weird link between teenage girls and middle-aged men due to a shared musical interest. I’m pretty sure Juno is partially responsible for my sarcasm and blunt outlook on life, but it definitely shaped my taste in films too. I’ve also wanted a hamburger phone for over 4 years now. I’m still working on it.
